Long ago, in a small village, there lived a poor miller and his beautiful daughter. The miller loved to boast and often told people exaggerated stories.
One day, he said something foolish to the king:
“My daughter can spin straw into gold!”
The king, who loved riches more than anything, was very interested. He ordered the girl to be brought to the palace.
🏰 An Impossible Task
The king led the frightened girl into a room filled with straw.
He said,
“If you can spin this straw into gold by morning, I will reward you. But if you fail… you will be punished.”
The poor girl had no idea how to do such a thing. She sat down and began to cry.
🧙 A Strange Little Man
Suddenly, a strange little man appeared.
He said,
“Why are you crying?”
The girl replied,
“I must spin straw into gold, but I don’t know how.”
The little man smiled and said,
“I can do it for you… but what will you give me in return?”
The girl had nothing of value except her necklace, so she gave it to him.
The little man spun all the straw into shining gold by morning.
💍 A Second Night
The next day, the king was amazed—but he wanted even more gold.
He took her to a larger room filled with straw and said,
“Spin this into gold by morning!”
Again, the girl cried.
The little man returned and asked for payment. This time, she gave him her ring.
Once again, he spun all the straw into gold.
👑 The Final Bargain
On the third day, the king led her to an even bigger room.
“Spin all this into gold, and you shall become my queen!” he declared.
The girl was terrified.
When the little man appeared again, she had nothing left to give.
He said softly,
“Then promise me your first child when you become queen.”
In desperation, the girl agreed.
By morning, the room was filled with gold. The king kept his word and married her.
👶 A Promise Comes Due
After some time, the queen had a beautiful baby.
One day, the strange little man returned.
“Now give me what you promised—your child,” he said.
The queen was heartbroken and begged him not to take her baby.
🤔 The Name Game
The little man made a deal:
“If you can guess my name within three days, you may keep your child.”
The queen tried many names—Tom, Jack, Henry—but none were correct.
She sent messengers far and wide to discover unusual names.
🔥 The Secret Revealed
On the third day, one messenger returned with strange news.
He had seen a little man dancing around a fire in the forest, singing:
“Tonight, tonight, my plans are set,
Tomorrow the queen will weep with regret!
No one knows my name so well—
Rumpelstiltskin is the name I tell!”
🎉 The Final Moment
The little man returned to the palace, smiling.
“Well, Queen, do you know my name?”
She guessed a few wrong names first, just to be sure.
Then she said,
“Is your name… Rumpelstiltskin?”
The little man was furious!
“How did you find out?!” he shouted.
In his anger, he stomped his foot and disappeared forever.
💛 A Happy Ending
The queen hugged her baby tightly, overjoyed that she had saved her child.
She never made careless promises again, and she lived wisely and happily.
🌼 Moral of the Story:
Be careful what you promise. Honesty is better than boasting. Clever thinking can solve big problems.
