🌙 When to Use These Sentences

Bedtime is the most peaceful time to practice English. The house is quiet, and you have your child’s full attention. From brushing teeth before bed to saying “Good night, sweet dreams!” — every bedtime sentence is a chance to end the day with English.

Make it a routine: read one story in English, then say goodnight in English. Children love routine, and within a week, they’ll be saying “Good night, Mummy! Sweet dreams!” on their own!

❌ Common Mistakes at Bedtime

❌ “I am feeling sleepy.” (not wrong but…)
✅ “I feel sleepy.” / “I’m sleepy.”
“Feel” is a stative verb — “I feel sleepy” is more natural than “I am feeling sleepy.” Both work, but native speakers prefer the shorter form.
❌ “I saw a dream.” (direct Hindi translation)
✅ “I had a dream.” / “I dreamed about…”
In Hindi we say “sapna dekhna” (see a dream), but in English we say “had a dream” or “dreamed.” Never “saw a dream.”
❌ “Open the fan.” / “Close the fan.”
✅ “Turn on the fan.” / “Turn off the fan.”
We “open/close” doors and windows. For machines like fans, TVs, and lights — use “turn on” and “turn off.”
❌ “I’m bore.” / “I’m scare.”
✅ “I’m bored.” / “I’m scared.”
Use “-ed” endings for feelings: bored, scared, tired, excited, worried. Without “-ed” it’s incorrect.
❌ “Sleep the light.” / “Off the light.”
✅ “Turn off the light.” / “Switch off the light.”
“Off” and “on” are not verbs by themselves. Use “turn off/on” or “switch off/on.”
