👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 When to Use These Sentences

Family time is the heart of English practice. When the family sits together for dinner, during car rides, or on lazy Sunday mornings — that’s when real conversation happens. “How was your day?” “Guess what happened!” “I love you, Mummy!” — these sentences build both English skills AND family bonds.

Indian families are naturally talkative and loving. Just switch the language to English! The warmth, the jokes, the planning, the “I love you” — it all stays the same. Only the words change from Hindi to English.

❌ Common Mistakes in Family Conversations

❌ “How was your day went?” (double past tense)
✅ “How was your day?” / “How did your day go?”
Don’t mix “was” and “went” — use either “How was your day?” or “How did your day go?” Never both.
❌ “I am agree.” / “I am not agree.”
✅ “I agree.” / “I don’t agree.” / “I disagree.”
“Agree” is a verb, not an adjective. Don’t add “am” before it. Just say “I agree” or “I disagree.”
❌ “I have a elder brother.”
✅ “I have an elder brother.” / “I have an older brother.”
Use “an” before vowel sounds. “Elder” starts with “e” (vowel), so it’s “an elder brother.” “Older” also works.
❌ “He is my cousin brother.”
✅ “He is my cousin.”
In English, just say “cousin” — not “cousin brother” or “cousin sister.” “Cousin” already covers both.
❌ “I’m boring.” (when you mean bored)
✅ “I’m bored.” (means you feel boredom)
“I’m boring” means YOU are a boring person! “I’m bored” means you have nothing fun to do. Big difference!
