👀 What are Sight Words?
Sight words are common words that kids should recognize instantly — without having to sound them out letter by letter. Words like “the“, “is“, and “are” appear so often that reading becomes much faster once you know them by heart!
Many sight words don’t follow regular phonics rules, so they can’t be easily sounded out. For example, “the” doesn’t sound like “t-h-e” — you just have to memorize how it looks and sounds as a whole word.
💡 How to Learn Sight Words
The best way is flashcards! See the word → say the word → use it in a sentence. Practice 3–5 words per day. Within a week, your child will know all 20 words! We’ve included a flashcard game below.

These 5 words appear in almost every English sentence! You can’t sound them out easily with phonics, so we learn them by sight — that means recognizing them instantly when you see them.
These words are called pronouns — they replace the names of people and things. Instead of saying “Rahul is tall”, you can say “He is tall.”
These tiny words glue sentences together! Without them, sentences wouldn’t make sense. They’re small but they appear in almost every sentence you read.
These words help us talk about who owns something (my, your, has) and point at things (this, that). They make our sentences clearer!
