❌ Common Mistakes During Festivals

❌ “Wish you Happy Diwali!” (starting with “Wish you”)
✅ “Happy Diwali!” / “Wishing you a Happy Diwali!”
“Wish you Happy Diwali” is Indian English. Either say “Happy Diwali!” directly or “Wishing you a Happy Diwali!” (with “a”).
❌ “I bursted the crackers.” (wrong past tense)
✅ “I burst the crackers.” / “I set off crackers.”
“Burst” is the same in all tenses: burst → burst → burst. Never “bursted.” You can also say “set off” or “lit” crackers.
❌ “She gifted me a book.”
✅ “She gave me a book as a gift.” / “She got me a book.”
“Gifted” as a verb is informal Indian English. In standard English, say “gave as a gift” or “got me.”
❌ “We celebrated the festival with great pump.” (pomp)
✅ “We celebrated with great pomp and show.” / “We celebrated grandly.”
The word is “pomp” (meaning grand display) — not “pump.” Or simply say “celebrated grandly” or “had a grand celebration.”
❌ “I am enjoy the festival.”
✅ “I am enjoying the festival.” / “I enjoyed the festival.”
“Enjoy” needs “-ing” with “am”: “I am enjoying.” Without “am”, say “I enjoy” (present) or “I enjoyed” (past).
