The Three Bears’ Morning
Once upon a time, there were three bears who lived together in a cozy little cottage in the middle of the forest. There was a great big Papa Bear, a middle-sized Mama Bear, and a tiny little Baby Bear.
One morning, Mama Bear made a delicious pot of porridge for breakfast. She poured it into three bowls: a great big bowl for Papa Bear, a middle-sized bowl for Mama Bear, and a tiny little bowl for Baby Bear. But the porridge was much too hot to eat!
“Let’s go for a walk in the woods while our porridge cools down,” suggested Papa Bear in his great, gruff voice. So, the three bears left their cottage and went out into the forest.
The Uninvited Guest
While the bears were away, a little girl with bright blonde hair named Goldilocks came walking through the forest. She saw the cozy cottage and peeked through the window. Seeing no one was home, she opened the door and walked right inside without being invited.
Goldilocks smelled the sweet porridge and her tummy rumbled. She went straight to the kitchen table.
First, she tasted the porridge in Papa Bear’s great big bowl. “Ouch! This porridge is too hot!” she said.
Next, she tasted Mama Bear’s middle-sized bowl. “Yuck! This porridge is too cold!” she said.
Finally, she tasted Baby Bear’s tiny little bowl. “Mmm! This porridge is just right!” she said happily, and she ate it all up.
The Three Chairs
Feeling full, Goldilocks decided to sit down and rest. She went into the living room and saw three chairs.
First, she sat in Papa Bear’s great big chair. “Oh no, this chair is too hard!” she complained.
Next, she sat in Mama Bear’s middle-sized chair. “Oh no, this chair is too soft!” she said.
Finally, she sat in Baby Bear’s tiny little chair. “Ah, this chair is just right!” she sighed. But just as she settled in, with a loud CRACK, the little chair broke into pieces, sending Goldilocks tumbling to the floor!
The Three Beds
Tired from her fall and her walk, Goldilocks went upstairs to the bedroom, where she found three beds.
First, she lay down on Papa Bear’s great big bed. “This bed is too hard!” she groaned.
Next, she lay down on Mama Bear’s middle-sized bed. “This bed is too soft!” she complained.
Finally, she lay down on Baby Bear’s tiny little bed. “This bed is just right!” she smiled. She pulled up the covers and fell fast asleep.
The Bears Return
Soon after, the three bears returned from their walk, ready to eat their breakfast. Papa Bear looked at his bowl and growled in his great big voice,
“Someone’s been eating my porridge!”
Mama Bear looked at her bowl and said in her middle-sized voice,
“Someone’s been eating my porridge!”
Baby Bear looked at his bowl and cried in his tiny little voice,
“Someone’s been eating my porridge, and they ate it all up!”
The bears went into the living room.
“Someone’s been sitting in my chair!” growled Papa Bear.
“Someone’s been sitting in my chair!” said Mama Bear.
“Someone’s been sitting in my chair, and they broke it all to pieces!” cried Baby Bear.
Furious, the three bears marched upstairs to the bedroom.
“Someone’s been sleeping in my bed!” growled Papa Bear.
“Someone’s been sleeping in my bed!” said Mama Bear.
“Someone’s been sleeping in my bed,” squeaked Baby Bear, “and here she is!”
A Hasty Retreat
Baby Bear’s squeaky voice woke Goldilocks up. When she opened her eyes and saw the three angry bears staring down at her, she was absolutely terrified!
She leaped out of Baby Bear’s bed, dashed down the stairs, ran out the door, and sprinted into the forest as fast as her legs could carry her. The three bears never saw her again, and from that day on, Goldilocks never went wandering into strangers’ houses.
The Moral of the Story
