Most importantly, he invited the kingdom’s magical guardians: the good fairies. However, in his excitement, the King made a terrible oversight. He invited only seven of the eight fairies, completely forgetting the oldest and most powerful fairy, who had not been seen for decades.
The Gifts and the Curse
At the feast, the seven good fairies stepped forward one by one to bestow their magical gifts upon the infant princess.

“Because you did not invite me, I too have a gift for the Princess,” the dark fairy sneered. “Before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel, and she shall drop dead!”
The court gasped in horror as the dark fairy vanished in a cloud of green smoke. The King and Queen wept, but the seventh fairy, who had not yet given her gift, stepped forward.
“I cannot entirely undo this powerful curse,” she said gently. “But I can soften it. The Princess shall not die. Instead, she will fall into a deep sleep that will last for one hundred years, to be awakened only by true love’s kiss.”
The Prophecy Fulfilled
Desperate to protect his daughter, the King ordered every spinning wheel and spindle in the kingdom to be gathered and burned in a massive bonfire. For sixteen years, the Princess grew up safe, completely unaware of the curse hanging over her head. She was exactly as the fairies had promised: beautiful, graceful, witty, and kind.
On the day of her sixteenth birthday, while the King and Queen were away, Aurora explored the castle. She climbed a narrow, winding staircase in the oldest, most forgotten tower. At the top, she found a small room where an old woman—who had never heard the King’s decree—sat spinning flax into yarn.
Fascinated by the whirling wheel, the Princess asked to try it. The old woman happily obliged. The moment Aurora reached out, her finger brushed the sharp point of the spindle. A drop of blood appeared, and she immediately collapsed to the floor in a deep, unbreakable slumber.
A Century of Slumber
The King and Queen returned to find their worst fears realized. Heartbroken, they placed the sleeping Princess on a bed of velvet and gold in the finest room of the palace.
The good fairies, knowing Aurora would be terrified to wake up alone in a strange new world a century later, cast a spell over the entire castle. The King, the Queen, the lords, the ladies, the servants, the guards, and even the horses in the stables and the dogs in the courtyard all fell into a deep sleep alongside their Princess.
To protect the slumbering court, a massive, impenetrable forest of thick briars, thorny vines, and dark trees sprang up around the castle, hiding it completely from the outside world.
True Love’s Kiss
Exactly one hundred years passed. The story of the beautiful sleeping princess became a legend whispered among the villages. Many brave princes and knights tried to hack their way through the thorny forest to find her, but the vines were too thick and the thorns too sharp.
One day, a brave and handsome Prince from a neighboring kingdom rode near the cursed forest. He had heard the tales of the sleeping beauty and felt a strange, undeniable pull toward the hidden castle.
As the Prince approached the dreaded thicket, a miracle occurred. The century of the curse had just come to an end. Instead of tearing at him, the thorny vines bloomed into enormous red roses and parted willingly to let him pass.
He walked through the silent, sleeping courtyard, past the slumbering guards and dreaming hounds, until he reached the tower. There, he found Princess Aurora. Her beauty was perfectly preserved, untouched by time. Overwhelmed by her loveliness, the Prince knelt beside her and gently kissed her.
Instantly, Aurora’s eyes fluttered open. She looked at the Prince and smiled.
“Is it you, my Prince?” she whispered. “I have waited a long time for you.”
With her awakening, the spell across the castle broke. The King and Queen opened their eyes, the servants returned to their duties, the horses neighed, and the dogs barked. The castle was filled with life and joy once more. The Prince and Princess were married that very evening in the grandest celebration the kingdom had ever seen, and they lived happily ever after.

The story of Sleeping Beauty teaches that goodness and hope can overcome evil, even during the darkest times. It also highlights the importance of patience, courage, and resilience, showing that love, kindness, and faithfulness can endure through hardship, fear, and long periods of waiting.
