Apostrophes & Possessives

Showing Ownership with ‘s

Learn when and how to use the apostrophe!

📖 Let’s Learn Apostrophes & Possessives!

An apostrophe ( ‘ ) is a small but powerful punctuation mark! It has two main uses: showing ownership (Rahul’s book = the book belongs to Rahul) and making contractions (don’t = do not).

Many students find apostrophes confusing, but they are actually simple once you learn the two rules! Let us master them today.

💡 The Rule

Ownership: Add ‘s to show something belongs to someone: Rahul’s book, the dog’s bone.
Contractions: Apostrophe replaces missing letters: do not = don’t, I am = I’m.

🎯 Key Concept

📦 Ownership: Rahul‘s bag = the bag belonging to Rahul
✂️ Contraction: do + not = don‘t (apostrophe replaces “o”)

📋 Two Uses of Apostrophes

📦
Ownership (‘s)

Rahul’s book, the dog’s bone, Mum’s cooking

✂️
Contractions

⚠️
it’s vs its

it’s = it is. its = belonging to it (no apostrophe!)

👥
