Verb Tenses

Past vs Present

When did the action happen — now or before?

📖 What are Verb Tenses?

A verb tense tells us WHEN an action happens. If something happens now, we use the present tense (run, eat, play). If something happened before, in the past, we use the past tense (ran, ate, played).

Most verbs form the past tense by adding “-ed” at the end (play → played). But some tricky verbs change completely (eat → ate, go → went). These are called “irregular verbs” and you just have to memorize them!

💡 The Rule

Present tense: action happens NOW (I run today). Past tense: action happened BEFORE (I ran yesterday). For most verbs, add “-ed” for past tense.

🎯 Key Concept

Present: Today I play cricket.
📅 Past: Yesterday I played cricket.
