You already know basic prepositions: in, on, at, under, behind. In Grade 5, let’s learn tricky preposition combinations โ specific prepositions that MUST follow certain verbs and adjectives. “Differ FROM” (not differ than!), “Depend ON” (not depend at!).
These are among the most commonly tested items in English exams because they must be memorized โ there is no logical rule. You just have to know: interested IN, afraid OF, good AT, listen TO!

Certain verbs and adjectives ALWAYS take specific prepositions:
Verb + Prep: depend ON, consist OF, listen TO, belong TO
Adj + Prep: interested IN, afraid OF, good AT, similar TO
No logic! You must MEMORIZE these combinations.

Preposition combinations are called “collocations” โ words that naturally go together. English has over 2,500 common collocations involving prepositions!
Different languages use different prepositions! In Hindi, we say “interested IN” but in French, they say “intรฉressรฉ PAR” (by). There’s no universal logic โ each language has its own combinations!
