India is called a subcontinent because it is so large and diverse that it is almost like a small continent within Asia! It has deserts, rainforests, mountains, beaches, and plateaus — all in one country.

Cherrapunji in Meghalaya receives about 11,000 mm of rain per year — making it one of the wettest places on Earth! Meanwhile, the Thar Desert gets only 100 mm.
