📖 Let’s Learn Reading Short Sentences

Reading sentences is the next big step after learning words! When you can read a sentence, you can understand stories, books, signs, and messages. Let’s practice reading short, simple sentences together. Take your time, sound out each word, and try to picture what the sentence means.

💡 The Rule

To read a sentence: (1) Read each word from left to right, (2) Sound out any tricky words, (3) Understand the meaning of the whole sentence.

📖 The 4 Steps

Here’s what you need to know!

👀

Step 1: Look

Look at the first word and start from the left

  • The…
  • Cat…
  • Sat…
  • …on the mat.
🔊

Step 2: Sound

Sound out each word using phonics

  • c-a-t = cat
  • s-u-n = sun
  • r-u-n = run
  • b-i-g = big
🖼️

Step 3: Picture

Picture the sentence in your mind

  • Imagine a cat
  • See it sitting
  • On a soft mat
  • In your head
💡
