Spell Bee — Free Spelling Game for Grade 2 🐝
A fun, free online spelling game for Grade 2 (Class 2) children. Your child listens, builds and types real English words across 10 colourful worlds — with a clue and an example sentence for every single word.
What is Spell Bee?
Spell Bee is a free spelling and vocabulary game made for children in Grade 2 / Class 2. Instead of copying spellings again and again, your child hears each word, sees a simple clue and an example sentence, and then spells it in a game. Getting words right earns stars and coins, and finishing a world unlocks the next one — so children practise spelling for longer without it feeling like homework.
Every word is set in familiar Indian surroundings — names like Rahul and Priya, foods like idli, dosa and roti, and places and festivals children know — which makes new words easier to understand and remember.
How to play
Tap the jumbled letters in the right order to make the word.
A few letters are already there — your child adds the ones that are missing.
Hear the word, then spell the whole word on the on-screen keyboard.
Spelling words your child will practise
The 300 words are grouped into 10 themed worlds and ordered from easy to hard. Here is a sample of the spelling words in each world:
Why spelling practice matters in Grade 2
In Grade 2, children move from single short words to longer words with blends, digraphs and plurals. Steady spelling practice now makes reading smoother and writing far less of a struggle.
- Listening and sounds: hearing each word builds the link between sounds and letters (phonics).
- Vocabulary: a clue and a sentence teach what every word means, not just how to spell it.
- Memory: building and typing words helps spellings stick better than copying.
- Confidence: stars, coins and unlockable worlds keep children practising happily.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Start at World 1 and let your child finish a world before moving on — the words get harder in order.
- Aim for one short session a day. Ten minutes of play is plenty at this age.
- Replaying a level to beat an old score is a great way to revise tricky words.
- Teachers can open the game in full screen on a smartboard and play a world together as a class warm-up.
Plays on any device
Spell Bee works in any modern web browser on a mobile phone, tablet or computer — there is nothing to install. Words are read aloud using your device’s built-in voice, so headphones or speakers are helpful. Your child’s progress is saved on the same device.
